Which peptide quote is cheaper? Compare the amount you actually need

A cheaper vial may not be cheaper for your experiment. Before comparing prices, check what the quoted milligrams represent. Powder can include water, counterions and other components as well as the peptide you want.

Start with the amount you are paying for

Bachem’s FAQ distinguishes gross weight from net peptide content. That distinction helps explain why a vial weight alone is not a complete description of usable peptide amount. But net peptide content can include peptidic impurities, so it should not silently be treated as a verified target-peptide mass fraction.

Two fictional quotations

Suppose quotation A is $100 for 10 mg of gross material, with an independently established target-peptide mass fraction of 70%. It contains 7 mg on that stated basis, so the price is about $14.29 per target-peptide mg. Quotation B is $120 for 10 mg with a corresponding 90% fraction: 9 mg and about $13.33 per target-peptide mg. B costs more per vial but less per documented target amount. These are invented planning numbers, not NHD prices or specifications.

Do not substitute HPLC area percentage

The example requires a defensible target-peptide mass fraction. HPLC area purity does not automatically provide it, because detector response and non-peptide components affect what the measurement means. Do not multiply gross weight by a chromatogram percentage and present the answer as a certified target amount without a suitable analytical basis.

Price is only one part of the comparison

Keep sequence, molecular form, required purity, testing, packaging and delivery scope comparable. Include the cost and material use of additional analysis if you need it. A lower calculated unit price does not make a sample appropriate for an assay with different requirements. If the amount basis is unknown, ask the supplier to clarify it first; an honest unresolved field is more useful than false precision.

Next step with NHD

Start with the NHD research peptide catalogue. For a quotation, send NHD your sequence or product name, quantity and required documents. Confirm the exact form, feasibility, available testing and delivery terms before ordering.

Comparing Peptide Quotes: Put the Specifications Side by Side

Check identity, amount, packaging and documentation before comparing quoted peptide prices on an apparently identical unit basis.

Compare identity before price

Align name, sequence or catalog reference, termini, modifications and salt form. Free GHK and GHK-Cu, or labeled and unlabeled peptides, are not interchangeable line items. If identity differs, a unit-cost comparison can be misleading from the start.

Separate total amount from amount per vial

Teaching example: quote A states 10 mg total; quote B states 10 mg per vial for 2 vials. The totals differ, even though both show “10 mg.” Also establish whether mass means powder, target peptide or another agreed basis.

Purity and content answer different questions

HPLC area purity is not the same as a target-peptide mass fraction. One quote may contain only an area-purity value; another may include defined content information. Do not multiply percentages without understanding their relationship to manufacture a seemingly precise cost per effective milligram.

Compare tests and delivered records

List identity, purity method, impurity questions and batch documents individually. “Quality documents” does not establish that every item is included or suitable. Mark gaps as questions instead of silently treating them as included or unnecessary.

Check packaging and delivery conditions

Same-batch aliquots, vial labels, transport requirements and split deliveries are separate terms. Confirm actual arrangements for the project. Another supplier's quotation does not establish an NHD commitment. This guide includes no real prices or supplier-value ranking.

Add costs only after the terms match

Use columns for requirement, quote A, quote B and open question. Then compare total or unit costs alongside the scope actually offered. Related product pages help identify materials; the final agreed specification and quotation govern the purchase.
