"Neurotrophic factors increase" sounds like a complete conclusion, but the paper may have measured gene transcription, protein levels, or other readouts. You need to see what was measured first to understand the sentence.
What is BDNF?
BDNF stands for brain-derived neurotrophic factor, a protein signal in neuroscience research. Bdnf is often used when writing about the related gene. mRNA produced by gene transcription can first be understood as an information copy used in the process of making protein.
More information copies do not mean the final protein must increase by the same proportion, and they do not mean behavior or clinical function definitely improves.
What did this Semax study actually do?
An original study published online in 2009 and in print in 2010 compared Semax and Pro-Gly-Pro-related treatments in a rat brain ischemia model, observing transcription changes in several neurotrophic factor and receptor genes.
The authors saw different patterns of change at different time points. For example, early Bdnf-related changes and later changes in other factors were not all rising together at every time point. This article does not fabricate unverified fold changes from the abstract.
Separate three kinds of questions
mRNA question: did the information copies of the related gene change? Protein question: did the actual protein level change? Function question: did cell state, behavior, or another functional readout change? Each layer needs its own measurement.
If a study measured only mRNA, it should be described at that layer. Protein or functional outcomes that were not measured cannot be filled directly into the conclusion.
Why does timing matter?
The same marker may differ at different times after treatment. When reading, keep the model, sampling site, time point, and comparison group together, rather than copying only a phrase like "significantly increased."
If two studies use different models and sampling times, results that look different do not necessarily contradict each other. First confirm whether they are answering the same question.
How does this help with material selection and reading?
Confirm Semax's full identity, the experimental model, and the detection items separately. Purchasing information for product materials can link to the catalog, while research effects go back to the original paper and its specific conditions. Animal mechanism observations cannot directly replace human clinical evidence.

Try judging for yourself: can an increase in Bdnf mRNA be written directly as improved memory?
No. These are questions at different layers and require corresponding protein and functional evidence, and the scope of the research model must still be retained.
The original time points and measured readouts
Figures 2 and 3 measured cortical mRNA at 3, 24 and 72 h in rats, normalized expression to Gapdh, and displayed mean ± SE relative to controls. These are relative-expression results, not milligrams of additional protein.
The abstract summarizes Semax-associated increases in Bdnf, TrkC and TrkA at 3 h, Nt-3 and Ngf at 24 h, and Ngf at 72 h. The pattern differs by time and gene; it is not a continuous increase in every neurotrophic factor.
If the graph says 200%, ask what was set to 100%
For a hypothetical graph, an expression value of 200% against a control set to 100% is twice the control under that normalization. It does not mean 200% of cells recovered. Read the error bars, comparator and samples. This teaching value was not extracted from the Semax figures.
How far can an mRNA result take the conclusion?
Describe a change in relative mRNA abundance rather than assuming increased protein synthesis and function. mRNA levels depend on production and degradation. Protein and functional conclusions need their own measurements.
