Human cibinetide evidence includes small exploratory studies with very different populations. A 22-person sarcoidosis-neuropathy pilot reported a symptom-score difference, while a 9-person diabetic-macular-edema study missed its principal ocular measures.
Evidence at a glance
- The randomized sarcoidosis pilot enrolled 22 participants: 12 received ARA-290 and 10 placebo.
- The SFNSL change at week 4 was −11.5 ± 3.04 versus −2.9 ± 3.34, while pain-intensity and fatigue scores improved similarly in both groups.
- In the DME study, 9 were enrolled and 8 completed; mean visual acuity, retinal thickness, retinal sensitivity and tear production did not improve.

Study record
The neuropathy pilot reported a statistically significant between-group change in the small-fiber-neuropathy screening list. However, Brief Pain Inventory and fatigue scores improved significantly but equivalently in both groups, and the depression inventory did not change.
Results in context
The 2020 diabetic-macular-edema study was even smaller. At 12 weeks, mean BCVA changed by −2.9 ± 5.0, central retinal thickness by 10 ± 94.6 µm and central retinal sensitivity by −0.53 ± 1.9 dB. A patient-reported visual-function composite improved by 2.7 ± 3.1, but the design was descriptive and uncontrolled.
Several DME-paper authors were officers, owners or consultants of the developer. That disclosure does not invalidate the results, but it belongs beside the data when readers judge a small exploratory trial.
What the evidence cannot establish
Small samples and short follow-up make effect estimates unstable.
Different diseases and endpoints cannot be combined into one broad “nerve repair” claim.
Neither study establishes equivalence to a catalog material or supports use outside research.
Sources & editorial method
The editorial workflow began with linked PubMed primary papers, systematic reviews, PubChem identity records and FDA/DailyMed regulatory records. Population or model, denominators, endpoints, numerical results, null findings, limitations and conflicts were extracted before drafting. AI-assisted drafting and original image generation were used; the final facts and evidence boundaries were checked against the linked records on 2026-09-02. This is not independent peer review.
