Antibacterial activity, effects on endotoxin responses and effects on cells are different experimental outcomes. Identify which one an LL-37 paper actually measured.

Endotoxin is not a whole bacterium
Lipopolysaccharide, or LPS, is a major component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria and can trigger immune-related responses. Reduced LPS activity does not establish that bacterial numbers fell. Conversely, destroying bacteria does not establish from the killing result alone that endotoxin-related problems have disappeared.
Why the 2005 study is useful
The researchers compared LL-37 and analogs for antimicrobial activity, chemotaxis, LPS neutralization, cytotoxicity and inhibition by serum. Considering several assays together shows why one modification need not improve every property. These were measurements under specified conditions, not a universal overall score for every use.

Different results need different interpretations
Antibacterial results require the organism, culture conditions and assessment criteria. LPS-related results require an explanation of how neutralization was defined. Cytotoxicity requires cell type, concentration and time. Do not line up numbers with different units and select the largest as the most effective.
Do not confuse assay interference with neutralization
If a material might affect the assay reaction, use interference checks appropriate to that method. A lower reading may reflect a biological change, a measurement effect or both. Controls must determine whether interference occurs. Charge properties or a published finding alone cannot decide it.
Turn the research question into a material specification
For LL-37 and LPS studies, describe the required identity, salt form, experiment and endotoxin-background information. Studying how LL-37 affects LPS does not establish that the material purchased meets a low-endotoxin specification. Confirm these separately.
