Replace “same as last time” with a clear record of material identity, approved specifications and any changes between orders.

Preserve the first order's final baseline
Keep the approved specification, order reference, identity, packaging requirements and received batch information. Draft emails may differ from the final agreement. Repeat orders should cite the confirmed version rather than rely on one colleague's memory.
Compare each identity field
Check sequence, termini, labels, modifications and salt before quantity and content definitions. A short name such as LL-37 or KPV does not define every possible form. If a catalog code changes, establish whether only the code changed or the material specification changed too.

Identify changes that need a decision
Different packaging, quantity definitions, methods or documents may affect use and comparison. Record the change, reason, possible effect, approval and effective date. Finding a difference after delivery is less useful than resolving it before confirmation.
Specifications and functional equivalence are separate
Matching agreed specifications connects material requirements across orders. Equivalent behavior in your assay may require a project-specific bridging comparison. Do not equate those two questions, or attribute every experimental difference to the material batch without investigation.
Make the record usable by another colleague
Store the order, final specification, batch information and change record together. A new colleague should be able to identify the current version and where to resolve discrepancies. “We discussed it verbally” is not an adequate reference.
Structure the next enquiry
State the original order and specification version, this order's amount and packaging, what must remain unchanged and what needs confirmation. Product cards are useful entry points; the repeat-order basis is the agreed specification and change record.
