Keep sample identity, preparation steps and open questions clear enough for a colleague to continue a peptide experiment.

Start with the samples currently present
List material, batch, aliquot, storage location and available documentation. State whether the material has been dissolved, diluted or otherwise processed. A same-name catalog item does not describe the condition of the vial on the bench.
Keep preparation numbers reproducible
Retain material inputs, calculation basis, final volume, dilution factors and containers. Clearly identify nominal quantities. The next colleague should be able to recalculate from those inputs rather than accept one final concentration without context.

| Condition | Value / information to fill in |

Hand over the method version and settings
Record the applicable method version, relevant instrument settings and raw-file locations. “Use the usual method” does not capture a manual adjustment or a specific run. Tie known issues to their samples, times and records.
Preserve what actually went wrong
Record precipitation, sample loss, delayed readings, additional processing and other deviations, along with actions already taken. This helps the next colleague avoid treating noncomparable results as if they came from identical conditions.
Finish with completed, next and unresolved items
Separate completed steps, next actions and unanswered questions. Unverified identity, usable lifetime or method suitability should not become confirmed facts. Leave the issue and its evidence for the appropriate decision rather than silently deciding it for someone else.
Connect handover to subsequent purchasing
For KPV, MOTS-c or SS-31 replenishment, refer to the confirmed identity and specification records. Product cards provide enquiry routes; the laboratory record explains the required form, amount and information for this project.
